MANHATTAN, Kan. – TCU pulled within three with 6.2 seconds left Wednesday night, but Kansas State escaped with a 58-53 decision at Bramlage Coliseum.

In a game of runs by both teams, the Horned Frogs’ relentless defensive pressure held the Wildcats without a field goal from the 4:20 mark until the end of the game, but K-State’s Marcus Foster hit two free throws with six seconds left to put an end to the TCU comeback.

On the night, the Frogs limited several of the Wildcat chances, holding K-State to only 38.1 percent from the field on 16 made shots, while forcing 15 turnovers.

Trey Zeigler led the way for the Purple and White, who shot 41 percent from the floor Wednesday, with a season-high 19 points on 7-for-14 from the field. The senior, who scored 14 in the second half alone, also grabbed four rebounds on the night. Kyan Anderson scored eight points, while dishing out four assists in his 100th career start for TCU.

The Wildcats were carried by Foster’s game-high 23-point outing on 5-of-11 from the floor. No other K-State player scored in double-figures.

With the loss, TCU moved to 13-2 on the season and 0-2 in Big 12 play. Kansas State brought

its record to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in league action.

The two teams would trade possessions to open the second half, but Amric Fields went to work down low, scoring four-straight to make the scoreboard read 26-23 in slight favor of K-State at the 17:39 mark. The Wildcats would take a 32-24 lead, but Anderson would have nothing of it, driving by his defender and kissing it off the glass to pull the Frogs within six at the 16-minute mark.

The Wildcats would jump on-top by 10, but TCU stepped up its defense and caused a turnover, which allowed Zeigler to find Hudson Price down low to make it a 36-29 ballgame with 13:24 to go on the clock. A few possessions later, Zeigler exploded to the rim for the flush and TCU was back in business, pulling within five at 36-31 midway through the period.

By the time Brandon Parrish went coast-to-coast for the layup, the Frogs were in the midst of a 7-0 run to make it 36-33. K-State would go back on-top 40-33 a few plays later, but Zeigler once again answered to inch the Frogs closer at 40-35 with a little over 6 minutes remaining in the game.

TCU continued to claw its way back down the stretch at the charity stripe, pulling within four with 1:14 left to go in the contest, but wasn’t able to complete the comeback despite closing within three late.

K-State jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, but Kenrich Williams would quiet the crowd at the 16-minute mark, hitting a jumper. On the very next possession, Anderson tickled the twine from deep and the Frogs were in business, now on a 5-0 run.

Zeigler would make the scoreboard read 8-7 in favor of TCU at the 14:04 mark, hitting an old fashioned three-point play. The Wildcats answered the Frogs’ 8-0 run though, taking a 14-8 lead midway through the opening period until Zeigler soared through the air to tip in the rock with 10:09 showing on the clock.

With the scoreboard reading 18-12 in slight favor of K-State, Anderson calmly stepped to the line and drilled back-to-back free throws to inch the Purple and White closer with a little over 5 minutes to go in the half. A few plays later, Chris Washburn looped a pass over a would-be defender to Fields, whom promptly found the bottom of the net to make it 18-16 with 3:24 showing in the period.

A late dunk off a run-out by Williams brought the halftime deficit to 22-19 in slight favor of K-State.
