TCU Loses To OSU

STILLWATER, Okla.—Senior guard/forward Garlon Green scored a game-high 20 points Wednesday, including the 1,000th of his career, but Oklahoma State proved to be too much on its home court, downing the Horned Frogs by a 63-45 count at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The setback dropped TCU’s season record to 9-6 overall, while the squad also fell to 0-2 in Big 12 Conference play. OSU improved to 11-3 overall and 1-1 in the league standings.

Green reached the 20-point plateau for the third time in the past five games, making 8-of-15 shots from the field. He became the 31st TCU player all-time to score 1,000 points in his career on a long jumper with 6:24 remaining in the first half. In addition to the scoring milestone, he also became only the 20th Frog ever with both 1,000 points and 400 rebounds.

Highlighting Green’s solid night was a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point range, which matched his career high for treys in a single game. The successful night from outside the arc continued a recent hot stretch that has seen Green go 13-of-24 (54.2 percent) from downtown over the past six games.

TCU needed Green’s efforts, as the rest of the squad struggled on the offensive end for much of the evening. The squad finished the contest shooting only 36.2 percent from the

floor overall while committing a season-high 21 turnovers, although it did make 6-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc. Sophomore Kyan Anderson joined Green in double figures with 10 points.

Three Cowboys scored in double figures, including guards Markel Brown and Marcus Smart, who shared the team lead with 14 points each. Forward Le’Bryan Nash, a Preseason All-Big 12 selection, totaled 13 points. Center Philip Jurick grabbed 10 rebounds to lead OSU to a 40-17 advantage on the glass.

Oklahoma State was successful hitting its shots (52.1 percent overall), although TCU did manage to cause the squad problems on the offensive end of the court, forcing 24 turnovers. The Frogs grabbed 10 steals, just one shy of their season high.

OSU took an early lead and never looked back, running out to a 36-22 advantage at intermission after leading by as many as 17 points in the opening half. The Frogs struggled to find their offense in the first period, with the exception of Green, who totaled 14 points in the frame. TCU shot only 33.3 percent from the floor in the stanza, while the Cowboys had no such problems, scoring at a 61.9 percent clip.

The Cowboys scored the first five points of the second half to move in front by 19, but the Frogs refused to give up. A pair of 3-pointers by Green and sophomore guard Kyan Anderson, as well as a jumper by freshman guard Charles Hill Jr., sliced the deficit to 13 points, 43-30, with just over 15 minutes remaining. OSU responded by scoring 10 of the game’s next 13 points to move back in front by 20.

TCU whittled the advantage back to only 14 with just over four minutes left following five straight Anderson points but was unable to get any closer. The Cowboys held the Frogs to only one field goal in the game’s closing four minutes.

TCU continues its two-game road swing Saturday when it travels to Waco, Texas, to face Baylor at the Bears’ Ferrell Center. Tip-off for the contest, which will be televised live by FOX Sports Southwest, is set for 5 p.m.
