TCU loses to UCLA

The TCU Horned Frogs dropped to the loser’s bracket at the hands of the UCLA Bruins.  UCLA jumped to a 5-0 lead from which the Frogs could not recover.  TCU pitcher Kyle Winkler suffered just his 3rd career loss, only the second of the year.  In contrast, UCLA starting pitcher Gerrit Cole struck out 13 in his 8 innings of play.  It is the first time since May 1 that TCU has been in double-digit strikeouts.

Jason Coats started a TCU rally in the 7th with his 98th hit of the season, a new school record.  Matt Curry and Jantzen Witte followed with singles to load the bases.  Taylor Featherston hit a triple to close the score to 5-3.

In the 8th inning, UCLA got one more insurance run and held on for the 6-3 win.

TCU will play a rematch with Florida State Wednesday night to try and avoid elimination.
