FORT WORTH, Texas – After fighting tough in doubles play, the TCU men’s tennis team couldn’t pull together to contend with No. 25 Oklahoma Sunday, falling by the score of 7-0 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Horned Frogs came out of the gates aggressive in the doubles portion, forcing Oklahoma’s top tandem to clinch the early 1-0 lead in the third and deciding match. The Sooners picked up their initial doubles win at the No. 2 court before TCU’s freshmen team of Nick Chappell and Will Stein evened things with an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 position.

The Purple and White had the lead in the final doubles match, as the team of senior Daniel Sanchez and sophomore Max Stevens controlled the tempo. Oklahoma had to have the No. 15 team of Costin Paval and Dane Webb break the Frogs’ serve at 7-7 and eventually finished them off, 9-7.

Oklahoma pounced on the Frogs quickly in the singles portion as No. 15 Paval dismissed Nick Chappell from the top court, 6-1, 6-2. No. 78 Webb gave the Sooners a 3-0 lead in the team score with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set win against Stevens at the fifth position. No. 67 Peerakit Siributwong sealed the team win for Oklahoma over Stein at the fourth court, 6-3, 6-2.

TCU enjoyed solid singles outings from freshman Facundo Lugones, senior Paul Chappell and Sanchez. All three players found themselves in a third-set tiebreaker after the fate of the match had been decided.

Lugones, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, claimed a first-set tiebreaker and endured a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 1-0 (8) defeat from the second court against No. 103 Tsvetan Mihov. Chappell also had to tough out a first-set tiebreaker, but didn’t have enough in the tank to finish OU’s David Pultr, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 1-0 (2). Sanchez enjoyed the biggest battle of the day, coming back to win his second set and challenging Guillermo Alcorta in the final tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (9).

TCU will wrap-up the homestand with Rice on April 1 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
