A pitcher’s battle between TCU’s Jared Janczak and Arizona State’s Spencer Van Scoyoc kept the game scoreless until the fifth inning when the Sun Devils broke through for a pair of runs on three hits.

TCU battled back to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Mason Hesse worked a one-out walk and moved to third on a Zach Humphreys base hit. Hesse raced home on a grounder off the bat of Austen Wade to make it a 2-1 game.

Hesse once again triggered a TCU rally as he worked a lead-off walk in the seventh. Two outs later, pinch runner Ryan Merrill was standing on second. Elliott Barzilli ripped a double down the left field line to tie the game at two. Evan Skoug followed with a bloop double to left field for a 3-2 lead. Cam Warner added an insurance run with a base hit to right center.

The Frogs tacked on another two-out run in the eighth. Humphreys singled with two outs and scored on Wade’s triple for a 5-2 lead.

Janczak (2-0) earned the win after allowing just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Sean Wymer pitched a scoreless eighth before giving way to Durbin Feltman in the ninth. Feltman pitched around a pair of one-out singles to record his second save of the season.
