FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior forward Chelsea Prince tallied a game-high 16 points to lead a short-handed TCU women’s basketball squad to a 56-50 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon at the University Recreation Center.

Prince was 6-of-11 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, and grabbed six rebounds with two assists and two steals in 34 minutes of action.

Junior guard Veja Hamilton and senior guard Natalie Ventress each added 11 points and five rebounds, while sophomore center Klara Bradshaw posted a career-best four blocks with a season-high seven rebounds.

The Horned Frogs (6-3) closed the first half on a 12-0 run when Ventress notched a 3-point play with 5.7 seconds remaining for a 29-19 advantage at the break.

Junior guard Alexia Standish opened the second half with a drive and layup and dished to Prince on a 2-on-1 break on the next trip down to give TCU a 33-19 lead.

Prince would connect on two buckets from long distance down the

stretch to give TCU a double-digit cushion, and Hamilton put the Horned Frogs up to their largest lead of 17 points with just under six minutes remaining on a jumper from the charity stripe.

The Lady Panthers stormed back with under two minutes remaining, putting together an 8-0 run in less than a minute to close the deficit to just four points with 1:41 left to play.

The Frogs relied on free-throws from Standish and Donielle Breaux in the final 20 seconds to put the contest away.

TCU shot 35 percent (19-of-54) from the field while limiting the Lady Panthers to a 33-percent (19-of-58) shooting effort. The Horned Frogs claimed the rebounding battle for the second contest in a row by a 41-31 margin.

The Frogs return to action on Sunday, Dec. 21 to take on Sam Houston State at 1 p.m., at the University Recreation Center.
