FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU women’s basketball team used a strong defensive performance to post a 78-46 rout of Sam Houston State on Friday evening for its fourth-consecutive win to improve to 8-3 overall this season.

The Horned Frogs held the Bearkats to the lowest field-goal percentage (24.1) and points (46) allowed this season while registering nine blocks.

Sophomore guard Zahna Medley led TCU with a game-high 18 points, going 5-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line with three assists.

Senior center Latricia Lovings posted nine points off a 4-of-6 effort from the field and swatted four shots, while junior guard Natalie Ventress also posted nine points in the win.

The Frogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead following 3-pointers from Medley and Ventress and never looked back en route to a 38-20 halftime advantage.

Medley posted three points the old-fashioned way after converting a layup and drawing the foul to double the Bearkats up at 28-14 with just under five minutes remaining, and junior guard Donielle Breaux extended the lead to 33-16 with a bucket from distance less than a minute later.

Medley rounded out the first half by driving the lane for

a layup with five seconds remaining.

The two teams went back-and-forth through the early portion of the second half before junior forward Chelsea Prince provided more cushion, finding freshman center Klara Bradshaw in the paint for the easy bucket before connecting on back-to-back jumpers to push out to a 58-33 advantage.

Sophomore forward Caitlin Diaz gave TCU its biggest lead of the evening at 73-41 after scoring six-straight points for the Horned Frogs en route to a career-best eight points.

Freshman forward Jada Butts also notched a career high on the night with eight points while leading the squad with a career-best eight rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.

For the second-straight game the Frogs shot over 50 percent from the field, going 29-of-57 (51 percent) while converting 16 of 25 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Horned Frogs return to action at 7 p.m., on Dec. 28 to close out the non-conference slate against Prairie View A&M at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
