FORT WORTH, Texas – Senior guard Donielle Breaux posted a game-high 17 points to lead the TCU women’s basketball team to a 69-52 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday evening at the University Recreation Center.

Breaux, who led three Horned Frogs in double figures, also posted team highs of six rebounds, four assists and four steals while going 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Senior guard Natalie Ventress scored in double digits for the first time this season with 13 points off a 5-of-12 effort from the field, while junior guard Zahna Medley chipped in 10 points.

TCU (3-1) got off to a slow start to begin the contest as Texas Southern (0-3) tallied 12 straight points to take a 12-4 lead after the first five minutes of play.

The Horned Frogs quickly cut the deficit to two on back-to-back 3-pointers from Ventress and Medley, and Breaux would put TCU ahead on a 3-pointer and follow with an assist to AJ Alix for a layup for a 19-16 advantage with 8:04 remaining in the opening half.

Breaux helped TCU maintain a lead going into the break, knocking down

a jumper from the free-throw line with just under a minute to play before finding sophomore forward Jada Butts in the paint for a layup with one second left for a 31-27 halftime advantage.

The contest would remain tight for the first eight minutes of the second half when senior forward Chelsea Prince dished to junior guard Veja Hamilton on an inbounds play, which turned into an old-fashioned 3-point play.

The following possession, Ventress struck with her second trey of the contest to give TCU its first double-digit advantage of the night at 45-35.

With TCU leading by 11 with just under seven minutes to play, Hamilton grabbed a steal and dished to Medley on the 2-on-1 fastbreak, and Ventress followed with another 3-point play as the Frogs took a commanding 57-43 advantage.

Hamilton provided a spark down the stretch, recording seven points, two assists and a steal in just 11 minutes, while Prince added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

TCU scored 36 points off of 31 Texas Southern turnovers while committing only 11 miscues.

Texas Southern’s Alexus Johnson led the Lady Tigers with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Frogs return to action at the OMNI Classic in Boulder, Colo., on Nov. 28 when they face Colorado State.
