MANHATTAN, Kan. – The TCU women’s basketball team couldn’t shake a slow start in a 93-79 loss to Kansas State on Wednesday evening at Bramlage Coliseum.

Zahna Medley led five Horned Frogs in double figures with 21 points and eight assists while going 7-of-14 from the field and 4-of-9 from 3-point range.

Junior guard Veja Hamilton extended her double-digit scoring streak to 13 games with 12 points, while AJ Alix, Chelsea Prince and Natalie Ventress all chipped in 11 points apiece.

The Horned Frogs (14-9, 6-6) got off to a rocky start, as the Wildcats found success in the paint combined with early foul trouble, trailing by as many as 17 points late in the first half.

Medley trimmed the deficit down to 13 with her third 3-pointer of the first half with just over a minute to play, but the Wildcats took the momentum into the locker room with a last-second shot off the glass for a 48-33 advantage at the break.

Prince quickly cut the deficit down to 12 to open the second half with a 3-point bucket before K-State put together a 10-0 run to take a commanding 58-36 lead at the 15:34 mark.

Medley would put the Frogs back into striking distance again with seven-straight points, capped by her fourth bucket from distance, for a 62-47 deficit with 12:28 remaining, but the Wildcats again took to the paint for back-to-back layups.

Alix, who tallied a career-high 11 points, caught fire from beyond the arc down the stretch to push TCU back into the game, but the Frogs wouldn’t get any closer than 10 points.

TCU shot 44 percent (30-of-68) from the field while knocking down 12 3-pointers on 28 attempts. The Frogs were outrebounded by a 37-29 margin.

Breanna Lewis led K-State with 28 points and 12 rebounds, while Ashia Woods added 21 points and nine assists.

The Frogs return to action to take on Oklahoma in Norman at 3 p.m., on Saturday.
