BOULDER, Colo. – The TCU women’s basketball team dropped a 76-62 decision to Colorado State on Friday evening in the opening contest of the 2014 OMNI Classic at the Coors Events Center.

Senior guard Natalie Ventress led the Horned Frogs (3-2) with a season-high 20 points and a team-best seven rebounds while shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range.

The Frogs missed their first seven shots to open the contest to fall behind 7-0 before firing up a 3-point barrage where they connected on eight first-half triples, marking the most since Feb. 13, 2013.

Freshman guard AJ Alix sparked the run with a 3-pointer and senior guard Donielle Breaux followed on the next possession with a bucket from distance.

After falling behind 13-6, senior forward Chelsea Prince, Alix and Breaux drained back-to-back-to-back triples to give TCU its first lead of the night at 15-13.

Ventress would tally the Frogs’ first non-3-point field goal at the 8:08 mark of the first half when she grabbed an offensive board and converted the putback to cap an 11-1 TCU run for a 17-14 advantage.

The Fort Worth native gave TCU its final lead with just under a minute to play before

the break when she drove in for a layup, accounting for nine-straight points for the Frogs.

The Rams (3-1) would score the final four points for a 35-32 halftime advantage, marking the first time the Frogs trailed at the break this season.

Ventress picked up where she left off to open the second half, bringing TCU within one on a pair of free-throws for 13 of the Frogs’ last 15 points.

Colorado State responded with a 12-2 run to jump out to a 52-40 lead with 12:56 remaining in the contest.

TCU would make one final run when Ventress connected on her second 3-pointer of the game to push the Frogs back to within single digits at 58-50 with 5:32 left to play, but the Rams answered with back-to-back treys to put the contest out of reach.

Breaux scored in double figures for the third time this season with 13 points, while Prince also hit double digits for the third time with 12 points.

The Horned Frogs shot 46 percent in the first half, including a 63-percent clip after missing their first seven shots, but managed to shoot just 36 percent in the final 20 minutes.
