TCU Women Lose To Baylor

WACO, Texas – TCU came up short Saturday afternoon, dropping a 78-45 decision to No. 1 Baylor at the Ferrell Center in front of 10,258 spectators.
For the game, the Horned Frogs, who fought till the very end Saturday afternoon, played with the Bears for the first couple of minutes, pulling within nine midway through the first half, but Baylor showed why they are the defending NCAA Champions, going on an 8-0 run and never looking back with a little over nine minutes to go in the first half.
With the loss, TCU, who outscored BU in second-chance points Saturday, 19-17, moved to 7-17 overall and 0-13 in league play, while the Bears improved to 24-1 and 14-0 in conference action.
Freshman Kamy Cole and junior Latricia Lovings led the Frogs on the offensive end of the court. The duo scored nine points apiece, respectively, while Lovings also grabbed eight boards Saturday.
Brittney Griner was once again dominant, scoring a game-high 22 points, while grabbing a game-high 10 boards. Brooklyn Pope and Alexis Prince were the only other Bear players in double-figures with 10 points apiece, respectively.
TCU came out of the break on the attack as Cole and Lovings chipped away at the Baylor lead early, draining a triple and a put-back layup. By the time Veja Hamilton ripped the
nets a few plays later, the Frogs were in the midst of a 7-1 run, which made the score 43-27.
A nice running jumper by Donielle Breaux with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the period moved the score 51-30, while Lovings found Zahna Medley on a backdoor cut a couple of possessions later to inch the Horned Frogs closer.
Midway through the second half, junior Meagan Henson pulled the Frogs within 20 at 57-37, nailing a deep three, but the Frogs couldn’t add to the trey ball down the stretch.
With a little over seven minutes remaining in the contest and the Purple and White looking for a spark, Ventress promptly looped the ball over Griner to Lovings down low for a tough three-point play. The Frogs continued to battle, but could never get any closer.
The two teams traded possessions during the opening stages of the contest as Hamilton ripped the nets early to give the Frogs a 2-0 lead. Baylor responded with six-straight before Medley tickled the twine from deep to bring the scoreboard to 8-5 in slight favor of the Bears with 15:43 showing on the scoreboard.
A few plays later Natalie Ventress found senior Delisa Gross in the corner for a triple and the Frogs appeared to be ready to make a run at the defending champions, now down only 10-8. Baylor would have nothing of it though as they went on a 9-0 run to take a 19-8 lead midway through the opening frame of play.
A couple of free throws by Medley ended the run for the time being, but the Bears were able to push it to 27-10 before the freshman dished it to Lovings down low for the bucket with a little over nine minutes remaining in the half.
Sophomore Donielle Breaux continued the offensive production bringing the Purple and White within 13 at 27-14 when she crossed over her defender and drove to the bucket for the layup at the 8:06 mark of the period. Baylor was able to push its lead to 39-15, but the Frogs continued to fight as Hamilton and Cole ushered a mini 5-0 run to make it 42-20 at the break.
TCU will next be in action Wednesday, Feb. 20 against nationally ranked Oklahoma State.
