TCU Women Run Past Grambling State

FORT WORTH, Texas – Sophomore guard Veja Hamilton registered her first-career double-double to lead five Horned Frogs in double figures as the TCU women’s basketball team cruised to a 95-64 victory over Grambling State on Wednesday night at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Horned Frogs improved to 3-1 this season while the Lady Tigers dropped to 1-3 overall.
Hamilton tallied a career-best 20 points off a 7-of-9 effort from the field and 6-of-8 performance from the free-throw line while grabbing 10 rebounds in just 24 minutes of play.
Fellow sophomore Zahna Medley led the Frogs in scoring with 21 points in 30 minutes, going 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-8 from distance, marking her third game this season with at least four made 3-pointers.
Freshman center Klara Bradshaw reached double figures for the first time in her career off a perfect 5-of-5 mark from the field, while also grabbing a career-best seven boards in 24 minutes.
Junior guard Natalie Ventress added 10 points while fellow junior Chelsea Prince poured on 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists in just 11 minutes of action.
TCU started the contest cold, missing its first six shots before catching
fire fast, connecting on 19 of the next 21 opportunities.
Hamilton sparked the first flurry of points with a drive and a layup and followed with a jumper to give TCU its first lead at the 13:31 mark.
Hamilton then found Ventress in transition for the easy layup, and Ventress would get two more easy buckets off solid defense as the Frogs stretched its lead to 15-8.
Medley connected on her first 3-pointer of the contest to give TCU its first double-digit lead with 9:36 remaining in the opening half and Hamilton struck again with back-to-back jumpers as the Frogs pulled out to a 32-17 advantage.
Medley then took the contest over, rattling off TCU’s next 13 points in a span of less than three minutes to fuel the Frogs’ 54-31 halftime advantage.
The Frogs had a hot hand all night, shooting 58 percent (34-of-59) from the field, including a 66-percent clip (19-of-29) in the opening 20 minutes.
TCU also dominated the glass, outrebounding Grambling State by a 53-35 margin to win the rebounding battle for the fourth time in as many games this season.
After three contests in six days, TCU will enjoy a week off before traveling to Puerto Vallerta, Mexico, for the Hardwood Tournament of Hope where it will face Florida Gulf Coast, South Dakota State and Purdue on Nov. 26-28.
