TCU Women’ Tennis Wins 8th Straight

AMES, Iowa – TCU’s women’s tennis team grabbed its second Big 12 win of the weekend Sunday when it bettered Iowa State, 6-0, at Ames Racquet and Fitness.

The Horned Frogs improved to 11-1 on the year and 2-0 in Big 12 play. Iowa State slipped to 5-8, 0-2. The win was the eighth in a row for the 27th-ranked Frogs. Due to time constraints, doubles were not played.

“I was happy with the way we played and to get another win,” TCU coach Dave Borelli said. “We’re getting better and we got great production from the bottom of the lineup which is what we’re going to need to be successful as the year progresses.”

Millie Nichols got things started on the right foot for the Frogs claiming a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Ana Gasparovic to give TCU a 1-0 lead. No. 65-ranked Stefanie Tan extended the lead to 2-0 with her 6-3, 6-3 downing of Simona Cacciuttolo at No. 1 singles.

No. 79-ranked Olivia Smith followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the expense of Ksenia Pronina at No. 2 singles. The Bath, England, native improved to 10-0 on the spring and won her fifth-straight match in straight sets.

Sophomore Simona Parajova, ranked 104th, clinched the match win for TCU when she took care of Meghan Cassens, 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Kelsey Sundaram pushed the advantage to 5-0 with a 3-6, 6-2 7-6 (4) win over Emma Waites.

Monika Sirilova provided the exclamation point for the Frogs with her 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) betterment of Caroline Andersen at No. 6 singles. Sirilova got her second win of the weekend and third in a row.

TCU returns to action March 23 when it travels to Houston.
