TCU’s Emanuel Brighiu named MWC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU senior Emanuel Brighiu has been selected as Mountain West Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Hailing from Iasi, Romania, Brighiu went a combined 3-1 last week as TCU went 1-1 at 33rd-ranked Rice and against San Diego State at home. Brighiu and partner Christopher Price defeated the Owls’ Harry Fowler and Oscar Podlewski, 9-8 (2), at the top of the doubles lineup, before the senior downed Fowler, the 87th-ranked singles player in the country, in three sets (7-6 (8), 5-7, 6-4) at the No. 1 singles position. Brighiu helped the Horned Frogs earn their first Conference win Monday against the Aztecs with a straight-sets singles victory over Giovanni Vaglietti, 6-2, 7-5.

The league honor is the first of the season for Brighiu and the third weekly accolade of his career.

TCU will take to the road for their next match, traveling to the United States Air Force Academy for the first time in program history. The Frogs and Falcons will toss up the first serve at 11 a.m. CT, Thursday.
