TCUs Kemboi Garners Mountain West Weekly Accolade

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU junior Agnes Kemboi has been named the Mountain West Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Kemboi crossed the finish line in second place Saturday to lead the TCU women’s cross country team to a 12th-place showing at the 75th running of the historic Cowboy Jamboree.

By placing second overall at the OSU Cross Country Course, Kemboi recorded the highest finish on the women’s side in Stillwater since former Frog great Glady’s Keitany won the Cowboy Jamboree title in 2000. Kemboi finished third individually at the Jamboree in 2010. Overall, TCU has now had an individual place in the top-10 in the individual standings five out of the past six seasons.

Kemboi, a Kenya native, recorded a personal-best time of 17:11.62 to clock the fastest 5k time in the Mountain West Conference this fall.

The conference honor is the second of the season and in Kemboi’s career. She also earned the league’s recognition after her runner-up performance at the North Texas Metroplex Opener.

TCU will continue its 2011 season in two weeks at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., Oct. 15.
