Texas Rangers advance to World Series

The Texas Rangers are in the World Series for the 1st time in team history.   The Rangers defeated the New York Yankees 6-1 to win the ALCS 4 games to 2.

Colby Lewis pitched 8 full innings, giving up just 3 hits.  The only run by the Yankees was on a ball which hit Nick Swisher and bounced away from the catcher.  Umpire Brian Gorman did not see the hit and ruled it as a wild pitch, allowing Alex Rodriguez to score from 3rd base.  Lewis struck out 7.

Rangers star reliever Neftali Feliz came in and sent the Yankees down in order.  Feliz struck out 2, including Alex Rodriguez to end the game.

The Texas offense went to work quickly, with lead-off batter Elvis Andrus getting a double in the 1st inning.  Andrus later scored to put the Rangers ahead 1-0.  After the Yankees scored on the bad call in the 5th, Texas came right back and took the lead again when Vladimir Guerrero hit a double after the Yankees intentionally walked Josh Hamilton.  Nelson Cruz then hit a 2-run homer to put the Rangers up 5-1.

Texas got another run in the 7th when Ian Kinsler sacrificed home Michael Young for the 6-1 lead.

The Yankees were never able to get anything going at the plate against the Ranger pitching.
