Texas Rangers promote reading skills

The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation and The Story Book House in partnership with the Arlington Public Library Foundation and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Foundation today announced details of a new community speaker series to bring lasting benefits to the Arlington Public Library.

The mission of the series is to promote a love of reading and children’s literature to Arlington families, to build literacy skills in the community, and to bring funding to the Arlington Public Library to improve services to children. The speaker series will spark the imaginations and creativity of children in the community, further strengthening their reading skills to ensure success in school.

The Story Book House owners Matthew and Kristine Abramowitz said, “It has always been our dream to be able to partner with organizations like The Texas Rangers Foundation whose goals are to strengthen the community through education of our youth as well as helping to bring resources to public libraries.” Bruce Coville, author of numerous books including the renowned Unicom Chronicles series, will kick off the program this Thursday, September 9 at the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The mission of the speaker series is to fight illiteracy, promote a love for reading, and bring much needed funds to the Arlington Public Libraries. The speaker series will spark the imaginations and creative process of children in the community, further strengthening their reading skills so as to have the tools that will positively enrich their lives.

The best authors and illustrators of children’s books will come to Arlington to present at local schools during the day and attend ticketed events supporting the Arlington Public Library during the evenings. The opening event with Bruce Coville will be by invitation only, but all other evening events will be ticketed and open to the general public. At the event books will be sold in which patrons can purchase for themselves or donate to the Arlington Public Library. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Arlington Public Library.
