IRVING, TEXAS (July 10, 2013) – The Texas Wild did what no other team in Mylan World TeamTennis could do for the past two seasons, they beat the Washington Kastles.

The Wild ended the Kastles’ amazing run of 34 consecutive wins with a 23-18 victory on Wednesday evening at Wild Stadium at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas. One night earlier, the Kastles set the mark for the longest win streak in major U.S. pro sports history in Washington, D.C. Before tonight, the last time the Kastles lost a match was July 22, 2010.

The Kastles started strong in men’s doubles as Leander Paes and Bobby Reynolds defeated Aisam Qureshi and Alex Bogomolov Jr. to take a 5-3 lead. The Wild, backed by a boisterous opening night crowd, rallied in the next two sets to win women’s doubles 5-4 and men’s singles 5-3 for a 13-12 lead at halftime.

A close battle in mixed doubles saw Qureshi and Darija Jurak emerge as the victors over Paes and Anastasia Rodionova after rallying from 2-4 in the tiebreaker to win the set and take a 18-16 lead into the final event.

The women would decide the final results as women’s singles closed out the night. Eugenie Bouchard was too tough, outlasting Rodionova 5-2 to give the Wild the victory, their second in three matches this season.

Washington remains atop the Eastern Conference while Texas moves into a tie for second place in the Western Conference. The top two teams from each Conference face off on July 25 to determine which teams advance to the Mylan WTT Finals presented by GEICO on Sunday, July 28.
