STARKVILLE, Miss – The inside combo of Arnett Moultrie and Renardo Sidney were too much for North Texas to handle at No. 24 Mississippi State on Sunday. The Bulldogs knocked off the Mean Green 82-59.

Chris Jones and Jordan Williams led the Mean Green (1-3) efforts with 12 and 10 points, but Moultrie owned the paint with a game-high 20 points in helping the Bulldogs move to 7-1 for the first time since 2003-04.

The Mean Green threw the first punch of the game on their first possession when Alzee Williams nailed a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Hogans, playing in his 100th career game, hit a turnaround jumper and Jordan Williams put in a couple of free throws as NT led for the first three minutes of the game.

But that run wouldn’t last. The Mean Green went cold from the floor for the next 10:25 and the Bulldogs capitalized with a 32-7 run, including three 3-pointers from Jalen Steele.

Jones, the nation’s seventh highest scoring freshman entering the game, got hot late in the first and nearly reached double figures in scoring. Jones’ 3-pointer with 2:50 on the clock gave him eight for the half.

North Texas did land a season-best four 3-pointers in the first half, but went into the break down 51-30. Walton would hit another 3-pointer on the game’s final bucket to make NT 5-of-20 from deep.

Hogans added a pair of blocks in the game to give him 84 for his career, which ranks third in school history. He needs just 14 more to reach his former teammate, Quincy Williams, for second in school history.

North Texas will head to Austin, Texas to face Texas on Tuesday night. Tip off from the Irvin Center is slated for 7:15 and can be seen on the Longhorn Network.
