DENTON, Texas – Derek Thompson and the Green squad rolled to a 41-20 win over the White in the annual Spring Game at Apogee Stadium on Saturday.

Thompson played the opening half for the Green squad and was 4-of-6 for 162 yards and two scores. His favorite targets, Ivan Delgado and Brelan Chancellor, combined for five catches and three touchdowns. Delgado caught two passes for 114 – including a 99-yard score – while Chancellor caught three balls for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

The first and third-string squads made up the Green team, while the White was made up of the second and fourth stringers. NT head coach Dan McCarney spotted White a 20-0 lead to start the game.

The spring game was just one of the attractions of a busy day at Apogee Stadium. NT hosted a “garage sale” for fans to pick up Mean Green gear, and Reckless Kelly rocked in a postgame concert in the stadium grandstands.

On the day’s second drive, Thompson hooked up with Delgado for 15 yards followed by a 17-yard strike to Chancellor. Two plays later, Thompson found Chancellor on the left sideline and the junior broke loose for a 31-yard touchdown to put Green on the board at 20-7.

Pinned at the 1-yard line late in the second half, Thompson and Delgado hooked up again, this time for 99 yards, to draw the Green squad closer at 20-14.

Green running back Jeremy Brown broke loose for runs of 52 and 25 yards on the second half’s opening drive to give the Green squad their first lead of the game at 21-20. Ten minutes later, Antoinne Jimmerson padded the Green lead with a 10-yard touchdown scamper between the tackles to make the score 28-20.

Chancellor put the nail in the coffin with 6:15 remaining when he hauled in a 52-yard pass from Andrew McNulty to put Green on top, 35-20. Jimmerson added another score, this one for 30 yards, with 2:43 remaining to cap off the 41-20 route.

Jimmerson was the game’s leading rusher with 11 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns.

The Spring Game caps off the spring camp for North Texas, who will take on LSU in the fall season opener on Sept. 1 in Baton Rouge, La.
