TROY, Ala. – No. 67 North Texas tennis took home its second straight 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon when it defeated the Troy Trojans at the Lunsford Tennis Complex for head coach Sujay Lama’s 74th victory as the leader of the Mean Green.

After tying the program’s top wins mark in yesterday’s win, Lama surpassed A.G. Longoria this afternoon and sits alone atop the standings as the winningest coach in North Texas tennis history.

“We competed well this weekend and that was our number one goal,” said Lama. “The great thing about this group is they battle hard and never give up. We are looking forward to playing conference championship at home.Our preparation has been very good and we are going in with a lot of confidence.”

The Mean Green began the match like it has each of the last seven, taking the doubles point and jumping out to a 1-0 lead.

Senior Nadia Lee and Franziska Sprinkmeyer joined forces for the first time this spring to capture the win at No. 2 doubles 8-3 before the No. 3 duo of Irina Paraschiv and Paula Dinuta matched the 8-3 victory to seal the point.

Singles saw North Texas win all six matches for the second straight day.

Dinuta cruised through another opponent on court six when she took down Rosaura Ramierz-Vega in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. She has lost only four total games in her last two singles matches.

Paraschiv and junior Ilona Serchenko registered identical scores on court four and five respectively, with each winning by a 7-5, 6-3 final.

Lee grabbed another dominant victory as well, losing only two games on her way to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Kseniya Bardabush and Valentina Starkova were handed more of a fight in their matches, but each emerged victorious in the third set after winning the first.

The67th-ranked Mean Green will return home for the Sun Belt Conference Championships, which begins Thursday, April 19 at the Waranch Tennis Complex and finishes with the championship match on Sunday, April 22 at 1 p.m.

Seeding for the tournament will be announced Tuesday evening.
