DENTON, Texas – Mean Green tennis split its doubleheader on Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex, taking down Oral Roberts 7-0 and falling to Stephen F. Austin 7-0.

“The difference in the first match was execution on big points,” said head coach Sujay Lama. “SFA out played us every single time when the point really mattered and you’ve got to tip your hat to them. “

The morning match saw North Texas (2-2) fall behind to the Ladyjacks from Stephen F. Austin (3-2) early, as they dropped two of the three doubles matches and lost the point.

Senior Irina Paraschiv and freshman Kseniya Bardabush was the lone Mean Green tandem to capture a win when they defeated the No. duo of Antonia Kolovou and Elena Kordolaimi from SFA 8-6.

The Ladyjacks would go on to win all six of the singles matches.

The afternoon session saw a much different pace for North Texas. The Mean Green came out on fire, winning all three doubles matches in convincing fashion.

Junior Valentina Starkova teamed with junior Barbora Vykydalova at the No. 1 slot for an 8-2 win with Paraschiv and Bardabush matching that score on court three.

Senior Nadia Lee and freshman Franziska Sprinkmeyer would take home the victory on court two 8-4.

Playing in her first singles match since last April, Paraschiv was inserted in the No. 2 slot and cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set victory over Hailey Martin of the Golden Eagles (1-4).

“We have the pieces especially now that Irina is back for both singles and doubles,” Lama added. “Now, it is a matter of putting them together and improving on our execution.”

Junior transfer Ilona Serchenko was almost as convincing in her straight set victory, as she wore down Lina Semenova, winning 6-0, 6-2.

Vykydalova and Sprinkmeyer were able to rebound after losses this week for straight set victories as well, with the junior emerging from the No. 6 spot victorious, 6-3, 6-2 and the freshman surviving a tiebreaker second set 6-2, 7-6.

Senior Paula Dinuta also ran through her opponent at the No. 4 slot, clinching the North Texas victory with the fourth point of the after over ORU’s Kristin Gray, 6-2, 6-1.

Starkova was the only one who was not able to finish her match. After falling behind 5-2, she battled back to take the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, before her opponent withdrew.

North Texas tennis will return to action on Friday, when the Mean Green travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for a showdown with the No. 24 Arkansas Razorbacks.
