DENTON, Texas – The 67th ranked Mean Green tennis team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon when it defeated UCF on senior day at the Waranch Tennis Complex, 5-2.
North Texas (12-6) began the match like it has the past four, winning the doubles point and jumping out to a 1-0 lead.
“We shook off a little rust after a long break and played pretty well,” said associate head coach Jeff Maren. “Our goal is to regain momentum heading towards the conference tournament, and I believe we took a step in the right direction today with a win over a tough UCF team.”
Senior Nadia Lee paced the North Texas doubles attack with Barbora Vykydalova, as the No. 1 duo ran through the Knights’ (7-10) Genevieve Lorbergs and Courtney Griffith 8-3.
The team of Valentina Starkova and Kseniya Bardabush matched the efforts of court one from the No. 2 spot, collecting the point sealing win in 8-3 fashion. The No. 3 tandem of Irina Paraschiv and Franziska Sprinkmeyer registered the clean sweep with an 8-6 victory.
Singles play saw the third Mean Green senior take home a victory on the day when Paula Dinuta collected a win from the No. 6 slot over Griffith in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
Starkova was able to haul in her second win of the day on court three, dominating Jenna Doerfler of UCF, 6-2, 6-2.
Bardabush took home the third on final win in singles for North Texas when she defeated Alexis Rodriguez in a third-set tiebreaker at the top singles slot, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
