UNT Women Lose At Denver 55-36

DENVER, Colo. – The North Texas women’s basketball team fell in the regular season finale to the Denver Pioneers 55-36 at the Magness Arena. The Mean Green (14-15, 7-9) will enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 3 out of the West Division and face the Troy Trojans, the No. 6 seed out of the East, in the opening round at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 3.

Denver (19-11, 11-5) led the game wire-to-wire as the Mean Green was held to its lowest offensive output of the year.

North Texas didn’t score until the 12:27 mark of the first half as they trailed 13-2 midway through. North Texas hit just four field goals in the first half and trailed 26-12 at the break.

The Mean Green opened the second half on an 8-0 run and cut the Pioneer lead to six points at 26-20 with 14:39 left in the game. The lead got back to double figures again, but the Mean Green kept battling back as a put back by Jasmine Godbolt made it a six-point game against 31-25 with 10 minutes left.

The turning point of the game came with Denver up 38-31 with seven minutes to play. Maiya Michel hit a jumper right as the shot clock was about to expire and it fueled a 17-6 run for the Pioneers to close out the game.

Sara Stanley had nine points and 10 rebounds while Godbolt had nine points off the bench to led North Texas. Morgan Van Riper-Rose led Denver with 20 points and Kaetlyn Murdoch had 14.
