UTA Defeats Troy

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington locked down the third seed for the Sun Belt Championship tournament by running past Troy 90-55 Saturday night at College Park Center.

The Mavericks (22-9 overall, 13-7 SBC) earned a first-round bye for the league tournament. Third-seeded UTA will open in Friday’s quarterfinals against the winner of Thursday’s first-round matchup between No. 6 Georgia State and No. 7 Texas State.

Erick Neal scored 14, nailed four 3-poiters and dished out five assists, as the Mavs extended their winning streak to four games. Kennedy Eubanks, a senior who started on Senior Night, had a game-high 15 points on 6-9 shooting.

Jorge Bilbao racked up his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Jones had his first double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Faith Pope had seven points and eight rebounds. Nick Pallas had eight points and grabbed five rebounds.

The Mavs took a 46-26 lead into the locker room behind 12 points from Neal and 11 by Eubanks. UTA shot 51.5 percent in the opening half and knocked down 7-13 3-pointers.

The Mavericks opened the second half with a 9-0 run to lead by 29 and extend Troy’s scoring drought to more than six minutes. UTA would lead by as much as 41 down the stretch.

John Walton and Jordan Varnado led Troy (9-22, 4-16) with 12 points each.
