ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma hit a 10th-inning home run that was the difference on Tuesday night, downing UT Arlington 3-2 at Globe Life Park.

The lead-off homer in the extra frame came after UTA rallied to tie the game in the ninth. Darien McLemore doubled to right field with one out to score John Michael Twichell.

UTA had an opportunity to walk-off in regulation, but a ground out from Matt Shortall to third with the bases loaded ended UTA’s threat.

“It is disappointing,” UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. “We’re one hit away once again. They had the big hit in the 10th but we will keep battling. We will get there.”

The Mavericks fell to 5-11 ahead of their Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday at Texas State. Oklahoma improved 12-6 with the win.

McLemore finished with two hits after pinch-hitting in the seventh. McLemore had an opportunity to tie the game again in the tenth but his long fly ball fell into the glove of the OU right fielder to end the game.

After Oklahoma opened scoring in the first, UTA tied the game in the fourth from a sacrifice fly by Twichell to center that scored Shortall.

UTA starter Chase Weaver pitched four innings, giving up four hits and an earned run to go with three strikeouts. Colin Tornberg received his first loss of the season after pitching an inning, giving up the home run in extra innings.

The Mavericks closed out a five-day stretch in which they finished 2-3.
