UTA Removes Hoops Staff

ARLINGTON, Texas  –  The University of Texas at Arlington has relieved men’s basketball head coach Scott Cross of his coaching duties, Director of Athletics Jim Baker announced today.

Baker also announced the University will not retain the services of associate head coach Greg Young, assistant coaches Zak Buncik and Kenneth Mangrum and director of operations Maurice Moore.

 All changes are effective immediately.

“We thankDFW21778-1 Coach Cross and his staff for their service to the University and for developing a men’s basketball program that operates with honor and integrity,” said Baker.  “In order to align the program’s direction with the University’s objectives, I believe new leadership and energy surrounding the program is needed.  We will begin a national search immediately.”

Cross was the school’s all-time leader in wins with a 225-161 record.  He spent 12 years as the Maverick’s head coach, 8 years as an assistant coach, and 3 seasons as a player.  He is the only coach in program history to have a record above .500.
