MOBILE, Alabama – UT Arlington finished off its first Sun Belt Conference sweep with Sunday afternoon’s 6-1 victory over South Alabama at Stanky Field.

The Mavericks (12-16) improved to 4-5 in league play and ran their winning streak to a season-high four straight games. The Jaguars fell to 13-13 and 3-5.

“Good weekend for us capped off by a good day today,” UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. “Daniel Milliman pitched great, the bullpen was great [and] got some timely hitting, just like we did all weekend.

“We beat a very good club. I feel good about it. That’s four in a row for us, so hopefully that keeps up going.”

Senior starter Daniel Milliman turned in the best performance of his two-year UTA career, improving to 3-0 after working 6.0 scoreless innings. The Jaguars managed just one hit, as Milliman threw an efficient 53 pitches.

The Mavericks broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth. Travis Sibley started it off with a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Peter Cuomo’s single through the right side.

Derek Miller followed with a double down the line to left to bring Cuomo home. Two wild pitches scored Miller. Gregg McCall upped to UTA lead to 4-0 with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Milliman made run support hold up before handing the ball over to the

bullpen. Zach Hobbs came on in the seventh before being relieved by Jess Amedee with two on and one out in the eighth.

The Jaguars loaded the bases and got on the board when a lazy popup to center was lost in the sun to score South Alabama’s first run. Amedee got the next two batters to quell the threat and worked a scoreless ninth.

The Mavericks added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth on Ryan Bottger’s single to center against a drawn-in infield. Sibley and Cuomo both reached to open the inning before coming around to score.

The last Mavericks’ conference road sweep was against Sacramento State in 2013 (May 16-18) to end the WAC regular season. UT Arlington is 5-5 on the road this season.

The Mavericks have a nonconference date with Big 12 foe TCU on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) at Clay Gould. UTA beat the Horned Frogs 10-2 earlier this season in Fort Worth.
