Action began in the morning at the UTA Tennis Center against the TSU Texanns with doubles play. The Mavericks took all three matches with help from the pairing of Elizabeth Thoms and Astrid Gehre in the No. 1 matchup against Luiza Adas-Ferraro and Ashleigh Elward.

The Mavericks continued with singles play next where they showed more dominance against the Texanns. Christine Foote got things started for the Mavs defeating Ariadna Cabezas-Marti 6-0, 6-1. The rest of the team joined Foote with victories over their opponents.

“I’m very proud of the way all the girls handled the very physical day,” UTA coach Diego Benitez said. “What we accomplished today required a great deal of concentration and determination.”

Following the match against TSU the Mavericks quickly turned around to take on the UIW Cardinals.

Following the same format, the Mavs started with doubles play where once again they claimed the doubles point winning 6-1, 6-1.

Lead by sophomore Astrid Gehre, the Mavericks once again dominated the dual matches claiming all six. Gehre started the chain of victories defeating Matea Zemunik 6-1, 6-2 soon to be followed by her fellow teammates.

“We all played really smart and consistent,” Gehre said. “We cut out unforced errors and implemented what we’ve been working on in practice. We want to get better with every match and today I believe we did.”

The Mavs will be back in action taking on Midwestern State on Jan. 31 at the UTA Tennis Center.
