UTA Wins Basketball Opener

ARLINGTON, Texas — Led by a 21-point effort from Jalen Jones, UT Arlington posted an 89-82 win over Texas Southern in its season opener on homecoming weekend, in front of 4,532 – the ninth-largest crowd in College Park Center history – on Saturday night.

 

UT Arlington (1-0) opened its season with the win, owning a 15-point lead midway through the second half, before fighting off a late charge from TSU to post the win.

 

Texas Southern (0-1) got a dynamic performance from guard Zach Lofton, who had a game-high 37 points in 37 minutes, connecting on 13 field goals – including five 3-pointers – and adding four rebounds.
