UTA’s Hervey Named To Lou Henson All-America Team

ARLINGTON — Honors for Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year Kevin Hervey continue to arrive as the UTA junior was named to the Lou Henson All-America Team by collegeinsider.com.

A native of Arlington, Hervey averaged 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and his scoring total was the fourth highest in program history. He was honored as an all-district selection by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the United States Basketball Writers of America and earned honorable mention All-America honors by the Associated Press.

Hervey, who missed the final 19 games of the 2015-16 season due to a serious knee injury, opened the season at limited strength but still managed 16 double-doubles in points and rebounds. He scored in double figures in each of the final 29 games of the season with 11 games of more than 20 points.

UTA won a school record 27 games, claimed the program’s first Sun Belt regular season championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament. The team claimed program-defining road victories at Texas and then No. 12 Saint Mary’s and ranked as high as 17th in the NCAA’s official ratings percentage index.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major player.
