PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – Leobardo Vazquez was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his three-goal performance at league foe Cincinnati, league officials announced on Monday.

The South Houston, Texas, native registered his first career hat trick in a 3-1 win at Cincinnati on Saturday to improve the Mustangs’ record to 2-1-1 in league action. The three goals were scored in just over a five minute span to lead SMU to a come-from-behind victory.

Vazquez received assists from freshman Deshawon Nembhard, junior Damian Rosales and sophomore Eddie Puskarich.

The sophomore has played in 11 matches for the Mustangs in 2013 and leads the team, along with fellow sophomore Alfred Koroma, with three goals.

Vazquez and SMU are back in action on Saturday when they host league opponent UCF at Westcott Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, and links to live stats and video can be found on SMUMustangs.com.
