Irving, Texas, July 05, 2013 – The Texas Wild announced today that Venus Williams will not play against the Wild on opening night when the Washington Kastles come to town on July 10. The same back injury that has been plaguing her for the past several weeks and made the former world No. 1 pull out of Wimbledon prior to its start, will also sideline her during the Mylan World TeamTennis Season.

“I have been working hard to get back into action on the court but my lower back injury has not recovered to where it needs to be for me to play Mylan World TeamTennis this summer,” said Venus Williams. “I love playing team tennis so I am really disappointed that I will not be able to compete with my Washington Kastles teammates this month or to play in front of the fans in Washington, D.C and Irving, Texas. I will be watching the Kastles this summer and pulling for them to keep the win streak going and bring home another Mylan WTT championship,” Williams added.

The Texas Wild is currently working on adding another Marquee player night to their match schedule and will make an announcement as soon as possible.

“We are extremely disappointed that Venus will not be playing with the Washington Kastles on opening night, but we know that she would be here if she was able to play,” said Jeff Launius, Owner and General Manager. “Injuries are a part of sports and we certainly wish her well in her recovery.”
