Wings Fall To Fever

Indiana center Erlana Larkins scored a career-high 19 points, and guard Briann January made two key late free throws as the Fever held on for a 92-87 victory at Dallas on Saturday night, ending the Wings’ four-game winning streak.

Indiana led by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter, but Dallas got within 81-76 with 5:05 to play. The Fever (6-9) scored the next four points and still held a nine-point lead with 1:56 left before the Wings (7-8) closed within 90-87.

January made two free throws with 7.1 seconds left to give Indiana its final margin.

Dallas guard Odyssey Sims missed a 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left.

The Fever shot 49.2 percent and had balanced scoring. Forward Tamika Catchings, guard Erica Wheeler and January each scored 15 points and guard Tiffany Mitchell came off the bench to score 12.

Larkins, in her seventh WNBA season, scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half.

Forward Karima Christmas led Dallas with 21 points and 12 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Sims had 18 points and forward Glory Johnson had 15 points and eight rebounds.

Catchings, a 15-year pro who played at nearby Duncanville High School, was playing in the Dallas area for the first time in her WNBA career.
