Wings Topple Mercury

Skylar Diggins scored 27 points and fueled a fourth-quarter rally in the Dallas Stars’ 117-111 triple-overtime win on Saturday night at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Phoenix took a 16-point lead into the fourth quarter, but Diggins scored 12 points in the final four minutes of the regulation. Glory Johnson’s putback with 10 seconds left tied the score at sent the game into overtime.

The loss spoiled a 38-point performance from Phoenix’s DeWanna Bonner, who connected on 10 of 23 shots from the field and made 10 of 12 free throws.

Mercury star Diana Taurasi finished with nine points before fouling out in overtime. She is averaging 20.8 this season.

Odyssey Sims, Karima Christmas and Plentte Pierson each finished with 18 points for the Wings (5-7), who won for only the second time in the last nine games.

Sims and Johnson made clinching free throws in the final minute of the third overtime.

Isabelle Harrison had back-to-back baskets and Bonner converted a three-point play, sending the Mercury (4-8) into halftime leading 48-42.

Penny Taylor finished with 21 points and Candice Dupree added 18 points and eight rebounds for the Mercury.
