Wings Win Home Opener

Guard Odyssey Sims scored 23 points to help Dallas hold on for an 82-77 victory over visiting San Antonio on Saturday night at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.

Guard Karima Christmas scored 14 points for Dallas (3-1). Forward Aerial Powers scored 12 points, forward Plenette Pierson had 11 points and center Courtney Paris grabbed 15 rebounds.

Guard Kayla McBride scored 29 points for San Antonio (0-3). Guard Sydney Colson and center Kayla Alexander had 11 points apiece.

Dallas took an early 14-6 lead and went up 19-8 on a jumper by guard Erin Phillips. San Antonio cut the deficit to three midway through the second quarter, but a 10-4 run helped the Wings carry a 42-34 lead into the break.

Dallas extended its lead to nine early in the third, went up 51-41 on two free throws by Sims and took a 55-42 lead on a layup by Pierson. The Wings led 63-52 at the end of the third and went up by 16 on a basket by Christmas early in the fourth.

The Stars stormed back to cut the deficit to two with 2:05 remaining, but a big basket and two free throws by Sims helped the Wings prevail.
