Young Named AAC Volleyball Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – Caroline Young was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season after leading the Mustangs to a pair of 3-0 victories over Rutgers and Connecticut this weekend.

The junior led the Mustangs with 24 kills in six sets over the weekend, averaging 4.00 per set with a .370 attack percentage. She hit .409 against the Huskies, hitting at least .400 in a match for the sixth time this season. Young has now recorded at least 10 kills in nine of 11 American matches, and has 303 kills overall.

The Brenham, Texas, native is third overall in the league with 3.44 kills per set and leads the conference with 32 service aces. She is also in the top 10 in hitting percentage. Young has 145 digs and 56 blocks this season as an outside hitter. In conference matches, Young is second with 3.62 kills per set, and sixth in hitting percentage.

The Mustangs are tied for second in the conference with an 8-3 record in league play, and are 16-8 overall. SMU plays at Cincinnati and league-leader Louisville this weekend, before returning for its final home matches of the regular season against Temple and Memphis on Nov. 15 and 17.
