Nishikori Wins Dallas Challenger
Kei Nishikori continued his rehab stint this week at the RBC Tennis Championships held at the T Bar M Racquet Club.
Nishikori, who was ranked as high as world No. 4 only a year ago, dropped just one set all week en route to securing the Dallas title.
Taking advantage of a tournament wildcard, Nishikori was able to work his way back into action after a 5 month layoff due to an injury he suffered in August during practice for the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Facing Nishikori in the final was 22 year old American player Mackenzie McDonald. McDonald had an impressive tournament, reeling off wins over over second seed Frances Tiafoe, former champion Tim Smyczek and Denis Kudla.
Nishikori will continue his comeback at the inaugural ATP 250 event in New York, and event moved from Memphis where he was a 4-time champion.
In the doubles event of the tournament, the duo of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Christopher Rungkat upset top seeded Leander Paes and Joe Salisbury in a tie-break to win the title.
