SMU Women Lose To Temple

DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU women’s basketball team fell to the Temple Owls, 55-39, on Wednesday night at Moody Coliseum.
SMU (6-21, 2-14 The American), with eight blocks in the game, set a new team single-season record in blocks with 145. The 2005-06 team held the previous record with 142.
Alicia and Keely Froling each scored a team-high nine points for the Mustangs, while Destynee Hives-McCray added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
Temple (14-15, 10-6 The American) was held to just 25 percent shooting in the opening in the first half, as the Mustangs led for the majority of the opening frame. SMU’s five-point lead just two minutes into the game was the largest lead of a first half that featured seven lead changes. At the half, the score was tied at 21-21.
The Owls then used a second half surge to pull away from the Mustangs. Aaliyah Butts led the Owls with a team-high 17 points and Tanaya Atkinson also reached double figures with 10 points.
The Mustangs host their final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. CT versus Cincinnati. Saturday’s contest will also serve as Senior Day. For tickets please visit, SMUTickets.com.
