SMU Women Top Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

DALLAS (SMU) – In the team’s first dual match played outdoors this spring, the SMU women’s tennis team (3-1) earned a commanding 5-0 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (2-2) on Saturday at the SMU Tennis Complex.

The Mustangs improve to 9-1 all-time against the Islanders.




Behind No. 1 doubles pair Karina Traxler and Liza Buss, the Mustangs jumped out to an early lead against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The duo defeated Hortense Boscher and Luna Dormet, 6-3. Just minutes later, Tiffany Hollebeck and Anzhelika Shapovalova clinched the doubles point at No. 3 doubles, defeating Maria Maldonado and Jelena Dzinic, 6-3.

SMU’s dominance carried over into singles play. Karina Traxler notched SMU’s second point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Louise Trigona. Sarai Monarrez Yesaki followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win in straight sets against Luna Dormet. Anzhelika Shapovalova clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court one against Hortense Boscher. The court four matchup between Nicole Petchey and Maria Maldonado played on to a 6-3, 6-4 victory for Petchey before the match was called.
