Cowboys beat Chargers 16-14

The Dallas Cowboys somehow defeated the San Diego Chargers 16-14 in the 3rd preseason game of the year.   For the most part, the Cowboys looked flat, only doing just enough to win.  Dallas made plays when they needed to, which is the most positive thing they can take from this game.

Quarterback Tony Romo only completed 4 of 11 passes for 30 yards.  He did hit Miles Austin for the team’s first red one touchdown of the year.  He also threw an interception.

The Cowboys’ makeshift offensive line did a decent job protecting the quarterbacks, though the running backs did not gain much.

Dallas made the big plays when needed, which was the game difference.  San Diego was leading in the 4th quarter when John Kitna found Martellus Bennett for a 19 yard touchdown to tie the game at 14.   With less than 4 minutes left, the Cowboys defence forced a fumble which rolled into the end zone and was covered by San Diego rookie left tackle Ryan Otterson, giving the Cowboys a game-winning safety.

Dallas has plenty to work on before heading back to Texas and playing at Houston on Saturday night.
