Cowboys Beat Niners In OT

The Dallas Cowboys came from behind to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 27-24 in overtime on Sunday.

After a 14-play, 77 yard opening drive which ended with a missed 21 yard field goal, the Dallas Cowboys disappeared for almost 3 quarters.  San Francisco capitalized on the momentum and jumped to a 14-0 lead in the 2nd quarter.

Dallas players began dropping out with injuries for the 2nd straight game.  Quarterback Tony Romo went out with a fractured rib, but not before throwing a 53 yard touchdown to Miles Austin at the end of the 1st half.

With Romo out, backup quarterback Jon Kitna tied the game with a 5 yard TD pass to Austin.  On the next Dallas drive, Kitna threw an interception which was quickly turned into another 49er touchdown.

The Cowboys running game took a blow when Felix Jones suffered a shoulder injury.  This added to the already long injury list for the Cowboys, which included Romo, tight end Jason Witten (rib), and center Phil Costa (knee).

With the Cowboys behind 24-14 in the 4th quarter, Romo, who has returned to the game but has difficulty breathing, throws a 25 yard touchdown pass to Austin.

The Cowboys get the ball again with 4:03 remaining in the game, still trailing 24-21.  Romo leads the Cowboys on a 10-play, 44 yard drive which stalls at the San Franciso 30-yard line.

Kicker Dan Bailey made up for the 21-yard miss with a 48-yard field goal to send the game into overtime.

In overtime, San Francisco received the ball first and was forced to punt.  On Dallas’ first play, Romo connected to Jesse Holley for 77 yards to set up a 19-yard, game-winning field goal by Bailey.

The Cowboys limp home with a victory, hoping to get players healthy enough to host the Redskins next Monday night.
