Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish had Tommy John surgery Tuesday morning in Florida and all went well.
Following the procedure, Darvish tweeted in Japanese:
“It went well. To all the people who had sent me power thank you very much!”
Famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure, replacing the ligament in the right-hander’s elbow with a tendon from his right forearm.
Darvish will begin rehabbing in the next few days; he will be re-examined on Wednesday and his arm will be in a sling for at least a week.
Darvish’s season lasted 12 pitches. After complaining of some soreness in his first spring training game, he had an MRI that detected the tear.
The Rangers hope he will make a full recovery and be able to return to action in April or May of next season.
