Mavericks Lose To Lakers

The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 115-89 Saturday night at the American Airlines Center.   With the loss, the Mavericks moved to 7-7 (.500) on the year. It marks the fifth time this season that Dallas has held a .500 record. The Mavericks have never had a record below .500 at any point this season.

Lakers forward Metta World Peace scored the Lakers’ first 10 points and tallied 16 first-quarter points for Los Angeles. He went 6-for-7 from the field (4-for-5) from deep in the first quarter, with his only miss coming on a 3-point attempt at the end of the period. World Peace finished with 19 points in the game, sharing game-high honors with Lakers guard Kobe Bryant and Antawn Jamison.

Mavericks swingman Vince Carter appeared in his 1,000th career regular-season game against the Lakers on Saturday. He became the 104th player in NBA history to reach the milestone. It was Carter’s 75th regular-season game with Dallas. With his second 3-pointer of the game (1,529th career) at the 2:58 mark of the third quarter, he passed former Maverick Nick Van Exel (1,528) for 16th place on the NBA’s all-time 3-piont field goals made list. Carter scored a team-high 16 points in 17 minutes off the bench. He made five 3-pointers in a game for the third time this season.

Mavericks forward Jae Crowder tallied a season-high 15 points to go along with a season-high-tying four rebounds and a season-best four steals in 21 minutes against the Lakers on Saturday. He previously scored a then season-high 12 points on two occasions.

Mavericks forward Shawn Marion recorded his 6,500th career made field goal with a runner at the 8:23 mark of the second quarter. He became the 76th player in NBA history with at least 6,500 career made field goals. Marion managed 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in 28 minutes.

The attendance for tonight’s game was 20,423. Tonight’s game was Dallas’ 500th consecutive sellout (including postseason games). The Mavs have now sold out 440 consecutive regular-season games at American Airlines Center, which is an NBA-best sellout streak. The streak began on Dec. 15, 2001 and Dallas has sold out an additional 60 playoff games during that stretch.
