Mavs Summer League Surprise

The Dallas Maverick’s have definitely found a stand out surprising star in the Summer Leagues. Jae Crowder scored 21 points in the 82-76 overtime win against the San Antonio Spurs. The Mavericks improve their summer league record to 4-1 putting them in second place to the Golden State Warriors in the Las Vegas games standing.

Crowder, the second round draft pick from Marquette, has been getting increasingly better as he had a season high in points to lead the game. The small forward averages 16.6 points per game and 5.4 rebounds. With the production that Crowder has been showing through the Summer Leagues, it seems that Crowder will provide a great backup role to Maverick small forward Shawn Marion.

San Antonio Spur’s guard Cory Joseph helped lead the Spurs in their comeback efforts to send the game to overtime. Joseph had a team-high 18 points and 7 rebounds in the loss to the Mavericks. The Spurs had a 54-50 lead in the third quarter before having to comeback in fourth quarter. They were held scoreless by the Mavericks in overtime.

With the Las Vegas games coming to an end, the Mavericks and Spurs have some some intriguing pieces that could help them in the regular season.
