Neftali Feliz reinstated from disabled list

The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight’s game that the club has reinstated right-handed pitcher Neftali Feliz from the 15-day disabled list, also recalling him from a rehabilitation assignment with Frisco (AA). To make room for Feliz on the 25-man roster, the club has optioned catcher Taylor Teagarden to Round Rock (AAA). Feliz (#30) will be available for tonight’s series opener against the Yankees.

Feliz, 23, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 23 (retroactive to April 21) with right shoulder inflammation. Today was the first date he was eligible to be activated. He made one appearance on a rehabilitation assignment with Frisco (AA), tossing a scoreless first inning on Wednesday vs. San Antonio (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 SO, 22 pitches/14 strikes). It marked the first disabled list stint of Feliz’s career.

Feliz last pitched for Texas on April 20 vs. LA of Anaheim (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 SO). He has posted no record with a 1.08 ERA (1 ER/8.1 IP) in 8 relief appearances for Texas this season, converting all 5 save chances. His 5 saves are tied for 9th-most in the American League entering today’s games. Opponents have batted just .138 (4-29) against Feliz with no home runs, 5 walks, and 6 strikeouts.

Teagarden went 0-for-4 with a walk and strikeout in 2 games with Texas, including one start behind the plate, since he was recalled by the Rangers on April 20. He has spent the rest of the season with Round Rock, hitting safely in all 6 games with a .389 (7-18) average, 2 homers, 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 RBI.

With these moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
