Rangers defeat Blue Jays

The Texas Rangers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 7-6 on Wednesday night, but it was not easy.  The Rangers led 6-2 at the bottom of the 3rd inning, only to see the 4-run lead disappear by the top of the 7th.  Mitch Moreland won the game for Texas with a solo home run in the bottom of the 7th.

Rangers starting pitcher Derek Holland went 5 innings, giving up 5 runs and striking out 2.  Holland was denied the victory when reliever Cody Eppley gave up the tying run on a homer by Juan Rivera in the top of the 7th.  Eppley went on to get the win, the first of his career, following Moreland’s home run.

Darren Oliver gets the save by striking out 2 to shut the door in the 9th inning.

Michael Young started another hitting streak with a double in the 3rd inning, scoring Ian Kinsler and Elvis Andrus.  It is Young’s 12th double of the season.  In the game, the Rangers were outhit 14-6.

Texas and Toronto square off again today at 1:05pm at the Ballpark in Arlington.
