Rangers Rout D-Backs

Colby Lewis flirted with a no-hitter into the 6th inning as he led the Texas Rangers to a 9-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks Tuesday night at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Lewis pitched a complete game, allowing just 4 hits and 1 base on balls as he evened his record at 5-5.  Lewis retired the first 16 batters he faced until giving up a single in the sixth inning.  It was the best start by a Rangers pitcher since 2002 when Kenny Rogers retired the first 21.

The Texas offense struggled early.  After getting a run in the first inning on a wild pitch, Texas was quiet until the bottom of the sixth.   The Rangers used the sixth inning to blow the game open with 5 runs.  David Murphy hit a 2-run home run to give the Rangers a spark.

The Rangers would end the game with 6 hits, 6 of them for extra bases.

Texas (36-26) holds a 3 1/2 game lead over the Angels in the AL West.  They will host the Diamondbacks again Wednesday night at Rangers Ballpark.  First pitch is at 7:05pm.
