RoughRiders Lose To Corpus Christi

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders and Corpus Christi Hooks traded runs early on in the affair, as the Riders were welcomed back to Frisco following a six-game road trip. The Hooks broke away with a four-run fourth inning and never looked back as Frisco lost the series opener 8-2.

Nick Williams doubled in Chris Garia to give the Riders a 1-0 lead in the first inning. From there, Frisco (5-8) and Corpus Christi (9-4) traded shots as the Hooks evened it up in the second inning only for Drew Robinson to regain the Riders lead with his Texas League-leading fifth home run.

The Hooks struck again, this time with three straight doubles to begin the third inning off starter Jake Thompson (1-2). Carlos Correa doubled home Colin Moran, and then scored on a double by Conrad Gregor to give the Hooks their first lead of the game, 3-2.

The Hooks continued its scoring in the fourth inning. Eight Hooks came to the plate and four more runs crossed. Thompson’s day was over after four innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) needing 80 pitches. The Texas native suffered his second loss in three starts this season.

The Hooks sent 2013 first overall draft pick Mark Appel (2-0) to the

mound for his third start of the season. The right-hander finished the evening with four innings pitched, two earned runs, and three strikeouts to earn a no-decision. Angel Baez (1-0) pitched an inning in relief to earn the victory.

Chad Bell made the most of his fourth appearance throwing four hitless innings allowing no runs while striking out six.

In the 9th inning, the Hooks padded their lead with an additional run when Frisco newcomer Cody Kendall walked in a run to make it an 8-2 game.

Kyle Westwood pitched the final four innings for Corpus Christi earning his second save of the season. The right-hander allowed no runs on three hits in relief.

The Riders will look to even the series on Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The Riders send Jose Leclerc (1-0) to the mound while Josh Hader (0-1) gets the start for the Hooks.
