FRISCO, TEXAS – The Frisco RoughRiders fell to the Midland RockHounds 8-3 Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark after a seven-run second inning, which ties for the most runs given up by the ‘Riders in an inning this season.

The RockHounds (24-37, 57-74) struck quickly after Conner Crumbliss led off the game with a solo home run over the right fence to start the game.

Midland took advantage of many miscues by the ‘Riders in the second. Josh Whitaker doubled, Tyler Ladendorf knocked an infield single and then Vinnie Catricala doubled down the left line to score the run. Later in the frame, Crumbliss walked to load the bases and then Chad Oberacker smacked a two-run single to center field. Jefry Marte doubled in another run to bring in Jon Edwards in relief of RoughRiders starter Arlett Mavare. Dusty Coleman walked loading the bases, and Max Muncy walked in another run. Ladendorf then capped off the seven-run second reaching base and scoring two runs on an error by Ryan Rua, extending Midland’s lead 8-0.

Frisco (25-36, 64-67) struggled against the ‘Hounds defense, as they were unable to take advantage of

a bases-loaded situation in the third. In the eighth, Luis Sardinas doubled to right and then advanced to third on a Rougned Odor fielder’s choice. Brett Nicholas then knocked an RBI double to right field to avoid the shut out. Rua led off the ninth with an infield single, and the Teodoro Martinez slammed a two-run homer, cutting the ‘Hounds lead 8-3

The RoughRider’s bullpen remained a big strength, keeping Midland silent after the wild second inning. Edwards allowed one run on two hits and struck out four, and Richard Bleier struck out two in two perfect innings. Randy Henry also pitched two scoreless innings.

Drew Carpenter (4-1) allowed just two hits and struck out three in six innings to earn the win. Arlett Mavare (3-3) surrendered seven runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings to suffer the defeat.

The ‘Riders continue their series with the RockHounds Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Luke Jackson (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will make the start for Frisco, against Murphy Smith (8-8, 3.64 ERA) for the ‘Hounds.
